Family of Marine Veteran Alleges ‘Soft’ Crime Approach by DA Sparks Outrage
Family of Marine Veteran Alleges ‘Soft’ Crime Approach by DA Sparks Outrage is the phrase now igniting public fury. The family of 44-year-old Marine veteran Jimmy Friesenhahn is demanding accountability. This was a violent, life-changing shooting that they say could’ve been prevented.
Their message is direct: the Bexar County District Attorney’s lenient policies put dangerous criminals back on the street. Because the far left failed policies still linger this is a direct result.
Friesenhahn, a former U.S. Marine and father of two, was working as a security guard at a San Antonio bar when he was allegedly shot by Wilmer. Vladimir Ortega Ruiz—an illegal migrant with a long criminal record. Ortega Ruiz had previously been arrested multiple times, including for DUI and probation violations, but was consistently released without consequences.
On May 4, 2025, Ortega Ruiz returned to the streets once again. That night, during a scuffle inside the bar, he pulled a weapon. Friesenhahn tried to subdue him. Friesenhahn was shot three times. One bullet struck his neck, leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down. He can no longer speak. He breathes through a ventilator. His life—and his family’s—will never be the same. Although we can’t change things we can change the law!
Marine Family Demands Justice, Slams ‘Catch and Release’ Policies
Jimmy’s sister, Becky Borjon, and brother-in-law, Emmanuel Martinez, are outraged. They say the shooting wasn’t just a tragedy—it was a government failure. We disagree, it was the far left radicals who are at fault in our government who allowed it to happen. But because we are not voting the right people in we will continue to see this same failed left narrative.
“Jimmy served this country with honor,” Borjon stated. “And now he’s paralyzed because the justice system let his attacker walk free over and over again.”
The family believes Ortega Ruiz should be charged with attempted murder, not just aggravated assault. They also want answers as to why immigration authorities didn’t detain him during previous arrests. Their voices have become a rallying cry for Americans fed up with soft-on-crime policies and ignored immigration laws.
Martinez didn’t hold back. “The DA failed my family,” he said. “This man should’ve never been free. My brother-in-law is in a hospital bed, and this criminal was walking around like nothing happened.”
DA Joe Gonzales Under Fire for Soft Prosecution
District Attorney Joe Gonzales has come under heavy criticism. Many see his policies as being too lenient on repeat offenders. Critics say his office prioritizes political ideology over public safety.
Despite Ortega Ruiz’s extensive rap sheet, there was no immigration detainer placed on him until after the shooting. That decision is now drawing fire from both local residents and national watchdog groups.
While Gonzales’s office has promised to stay in contact with the Friesenhahn family, they say promises aren’t enough. They want action. They want change.
The Cost of Inaction: One Family’s Pain, One Nation’s Warning
Jimmy Friesenhahn’s recovery remains uncertain. He has undergone multiple surgeries, but his condition is critical. His family now faces enormous emotional and financial burdens, and they are turning to the public for support and awareness.
This story isn’t just about one man. It’s about a broken system. It’s about policies that protect criminals while abandoning patriots.
This is a wake-up call. Families across America must ask: who’s really being protected?
Family of Marine Veteran Alleges ‘Soft’ Crime Approach by DA Sparks Outrage is more than a headline—it’s a demand for justice.
